Skillbox is a self-hosted library for the skill files AI agents load, built on React, Bun, Hono and PostgreSQL. It stores skills with a markdown or file editor, keeps immutable revisions with conflict detection and restore, and serves them to agents over MCP through revocable, scoped client keys.
Skill recommendations are optional and use Jev. Given a task, Skillbox sends the task text and the descriptions of the skills that client is allowed to use, and Jev scores each skill against a rubric to rank them. Through OpenRouter, the catalog goes in batches of up to 32 skills under an eight-second deadline. Without a saved provider key, or if a call fails, recommendations fall back to ordinary search and say why. The feature needs the user’s own OpenRouter, TypeSafe AI or Vercel AI Gateway key; a new instance starts empty, with no skills, accounts or provider credentials seeded.
The rest of the project works without Jev: imports from a public GitHub URL with commit-pinned previews, folder import and export, and Docker-only setup with optional HTTPS through Caddy.
